October is shaping up to be a busy month for royal watchers with a multitude of state visits and engagements taking place in the coming weeks. This October though, marks the coming of age birthdays for two of Europe’s heirs.

Leonor, Princess of Asturias and future Queen of Spain, and Prince Christian of Denmark, future King of Denmark, are both turning 18 this year.
Prince Christian’s birthday on the 15th is being marked in a big way, with a gala dinner and documentary, while Leonor’s is being celebrated in a low-key manner, with just a dinner for family.
However, both heirs are being commemorated in their own ways!

A new Greenlandic stamp has been revealed, featuring Prince Christian.
Photographed by Franne Voigt, Christian is seen wearing a white anorak that is part of the Greenlandic national costume. The last time Christian was pictured on a stamp was in 2016 with his parents and siblings to mark Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary’s wedding anniversary.

Princess Leonor is also being commemorated in a significant way, with a collectable 40 euro coin. One side features her likeness while the other features her coat of arms. There is only going to be one million created, so this is a special one for coin collectors!
Again, this is not the first time Leonor has been on a coin. However, it is the first time you can actually recognize her face; in 2018 a coin with both Leonor and her father King Felipe VI was released to mark the King’s 50th birthday.

Many folks were upset with how Leonor was pictured as she was only 12 at this point. So why does she look like a 40 year old?
My dad is a coin collector himself, perhaps this is a good Christmas present? Will you be getting any stamps or coins for yourself?
