Happy birthday to Prince Christian of Denmark, second in line to the throne, who turned 18 years old yesterday! The young Prince kicked off the celebrations with a balcony appearance joined by his family.

I also want to include this photo because I love it. Three generations. One monarch and her two heirs.

Now on to the party! I posted my tiara predictions earlier this week and I included sooo many royals that didn’t actually attend. Better safe than sorry as they say. For the royals that did attend, I got 50% of my predictions correct. Not my best work, but not bad!

Queen Margrethe II of Denmark:

I predicted that the Queen would wear the Danish emerald tiara. It’s part of the Danish crown jewels and arguably the grandest in the collection. Instead, she wore the tiara she has been wearing for the last few tiara events: the pearl poire.

Crown Princess Mary of Denmark:

The Crown Princely family walked in together. Crown Princess Mary, Christian’s mother, wore her wedding tiara. I predicted that she would also go with the grandest tiara available to her, the Danish rubies.

Also note: Prince Christian was granted the Danish Order of the Elephant! He was also gifted the Norwegian Order of St. Olav as per tradition of Danish and Norwegian heirs receiving the opposite order for their 18th birthday. I plan on making posts about orders soon.

Mary also wore her Jesper Hovring gown; she’s worn it a few times now and honestly I never get tired of it.

Queen Anne Marie of Greece and Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg:

Christian’s great aunts, Anne Marie and Benedikte attended. My first correct tiara prediction came with Benedikte! She wore the SWB fringe. I also predicted that Anne Marie would wear the Greek emerald tiara. Instead, we got another showing of the Khedive of Egypt.

Princess Carina of SWB:

It is always so nice to see these two after all they have been through (again, another post for another day)! And I sure do love writing out “Princess” Carina. I was correct in my prediction for her tiara; she wore her wedding tiara.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden:

First of all, I adore so much that Estelle is attending these events. It’s not often that we saw the little royals at big galas like this in the past, so to see the future queen of Sweden participating is awesome! She is only 11, so we did not get a tiara for her, but it’s definitely coming! I have a soft spot for the Swedish royal family and Crown Princess Victoria in particular. She and her family are just lovely.

Anyway, gushing aside, I was also correct in my tiara prediction for Victoria. She wore the Boucheron laurel wreath tiara.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway:

Two correct predictions! I was really hoping that we would see Mette-Marit as she has been on sick leave. That ended Thursday though and it was confirmed that she would be attending with Crown Prince Haakon and their daughter. She wore the diamond daisy bandeau while Ingrid Alexandra wore her birthday tiara.

Princess Amalia of the Netherlands:

Amalia is shaping up to be my new favourite tiara wearer. She really knows how to rock them! I predicted that she would wear the Dutch antique pearl tiara, but instead she wore the Dutch sapphire necklace tiara! This is one that we rarely see anyway so I was quite pleased.

Princess Elisabeth of Belgium:

The future Queen of the Belgians truly changed my mind on the Wolfers tiara last night. So I thought she might wear the base of the nine provinces tiara but she wore the Wolfers! Belgium doesn’t have the biggest collection (unless Elisabeth wants to dig deep into the vaults for what might be there…) and a lot of their tiaras are quite small. However, she wore the diamonds out of the Wolfers. I think a lot of it comes from her hairstyle; it often got lost in Mathilde or Fabiola’s hair. So while I still think it’s best as a necklace, I’m not too mad about it as a tiara now.

She and Amalia walked in together like the fabulous future queens they are.

Princess Marie of Denmark:

Prince Joachim and family returned from the USA to Denmark for the gala, which was super nice to see. Marie wore Princess Dagmar’s floral tiara as I predicted. They were joined by their kids Countess Athena, Count Henrik, and one of Joachim’s sons from his first marriage, Count Felix. Eldest son Count Nikolai did not attend as he is studying in Australia.

Crown Princess Marie Chantal of Greece:

Another wrong prediction, and honestly, I should have seen this coming. I predicted that MC would wear the Miller fringe but that’s just silly. Per MC fashion, she went big and wore Queen Sophie’s tiara. It’s a beautiful piece so I’m not too upset.

Danish Royal Family

What a fantastic night! We were even spoiled with an heirs photo. Happiest birthday wishes to Prince Christian!
