One tiara event we are guaranteed every year is Stortingsmiddag in Norway!

This is a gala dinner hosted by the royal family for members of parliament, or Stortingsmiddag. You don’t need to speak Norwegian to enjoy a good, sparkly evening.

Queen Sonja:

For the dinner this year, Queen Sonja dug through her closets for this beautiful white gown with floral embellishments from Balmain. She also wore Queen Maud’s pearl tiara. Fun fact about this one, this tiara is not only able to be worn in different configurations, it’s also not the original piece that belonged to Queen Maud. The original was stolen and this is the replacement! That’s a post for another day.

She was escorted in by her son, Crown Prince Haakon. He took charge of the night as regent. His father, King Harald V, has contracted COVID and is on sick leave. Haakon read the speech written by his father, which included bits about marrying Sonja and their marriage. Hilarity ensued.

Crown Princess Mette-Marit:

Also back from sick leave was Crown Princess Mette-Marit! She suffers from a form of pulmonary fibrosis and hasn’t been well lately. It’s always nice to see her able to participate in events!

I loved her look here. This is actually a Biyan top and a Lela Rose skirt. In a change up from her typical diamond daisy bandeau look, she went with the modern amethyst suite.

Princess Astrid:

Princess Astrid also attended. She is the older sister of King Harald, and is still rocking the gala gowns and tiaras at age 91!

She wore a pink gown and her ruby aigrette. Here’s a closer look at it:

She’s made jokes about being able to receive radio transmissions from around the world while wearing the aigrette. It’s definitely not one of my favourites, but I can appreciate her humour. Also, check out the myriad of royal family orders Astrid has! Again, another post for another day on orders.
