It’s time to shine for the Queen of the Belgians! Here are my top five looks from Queen Mathilde from 2023:

On February 2nd, 2023, she visited on Oxfam store to learn more about their work. If you don’t know, Oxfam is a group of 21 charities that have stores all over the world that sell second hand items or fair trade goods. Oxfam is also on hand to provide relief during many international crises.

For the visit, the Queen wore a full Natan suit. The green was a nice touch, coinciding with Oxfam’s colours, and I thought the suit was beautifully tailored and fitted.

A staple of Mathilde’s schedule each year is the Queen Elisabeth music competition. On June 13th, she attended the final concert wearing a floral Dries van Noten dress. The print is a little busy, but that’s what I like about it. I love as well that she kept the rest of the look simple, with just some matching earrings and her hair pulled back.

In February of this year, Queen Mathilde visited Bangladesh as part of her role as advocate for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. She wore Anita Dongre for the visit, and I’m personally a big fan of Anita Dongre. I wish more royals wore the designer but for now, I’ll let Mathilde lead the way.

The Queen of the Belgians wore a Natan gown for their visit to South Africa earlier this year. She’s worn this gown before and I was happy to see it again here. Now, if my memory serves me right, this visit to South Africa ended up with a few changes to the itinerary. The state banquet was downgraded as I recall, and so there were no tiaras for the event. That being said, what really made this look for me was the jewels Mathilde snuck in anyway:

She wore a bow brooch in the back of her hair!

When Mathilde and Máxima get together, you know it’s going to be good. They pull out all the stops for each other and it’s always a glittering, colourful explosion. For the Dutch state visit to Belgium, both queens went all out, each wearing their big gun tiaras: Mathilde in the Nine Provinces, and Máxima in the Stuart. But this post isn’t about Máxima, though she’ll get her own soon.

Along with the Nine Provinces tiara and the Armani gown, the Queen of the Belgians actually wore a second tiara:

The Wolfers tiara functions as a necklace as well. Now that’s the definition of go big or go home.
